Alex Schwazer Relieved Being caught Cheating: Summary

Summary:
An Olympic race-walker, Alex Schwazer, had won a gold medal but he cheated in order to get it. Schwazer had been using drugs and because of that he was banned from the Olympics. But his reaction to the punishment was that he seemed relieved! He says that he has been carrying that guilt, that weight inside of him and he was glad that he was caught using drugs. He says he couldn't take it anymore and that he was not made to take drugs. He new he was doing wrong and was finally glad that it has been discovered that he cheated, instead of doing practice, and couldn't live through the guilt any longer.

You may want to take a class that your high school doesn't offer. Under some circumstances, you can still enroll in the class—through distances learning.

Distance education means taking a class without being physically present where it is being taught. Internet-based technology lets students participate in lectures and class sessions online from almost anywhere.

Some high schools agree recognize distance learning credits when they don’t have the resources to offer a course themselves. Distance education is often used to increase options in rural areas and for AP courses.

For you, it might mean doing self-tutorial at home in the evening or participating in a class that is 1,000 miles away, along with other high school students. Check with your school counselor to see what’s available.

Reflection:
What this statement probably means is that there is nothing scary about doing what's right. In other words, you shouldn't be scared to to do what's right. For example, if you accidentally forgot your homework, don't panic and lie to the teacher about it, instead be brave and tell the truth just as conscience tells you to and you won't have to worry about a harsh punishment when you know that you did the right thing.

Although working and going to schools is challenging, it can be a rewarding experience if you use some foresight. These tips can help you handle the situation and make the most of your time:

·       Discuss your plans with your family. Balancing the demands of school and work is easier with their support.

·       Start slowly; don’t commit to working a lot of hours immediately.

·       Avoid time conflicts by planning your class and work schedules as far ahead of time as possible.

·       Use you time efficiently. You can use 10 minutes waiting in a line to go over a few pages of assigned reading. If your job has a lot of down time and your boss has no objection, you can use slow periods to do school work.

·       If you commute to your job on public transportation bring your schoolwork with you so you can work along the way.

·       Be flexible and willing to make sacrifices. You may have to cut down on some other things you’d like to do because of your school and work commitments.

·       If you have too much on your plate, admit it. Then cut back as needed.

·       Schedule relaxation time. Everyone needs some downtime to stay happy and healthy.

Marion Jones' Great Fall: Summary

Summary:
Marion Jones is a great runner in the track and field for the Olympics and has three gold medals and two bronze as a total of five medals. She is happy to have received these five medals ,but she has a dark secret on how she won these five medals which has led to her great fall from the Olympic podium to a prison. She had cheated to get these medals. When she was in the federal courthouse she admitted to everyone that she cheated to get the she has and when she did, she had to be thrown in prison. What she did to cheat was she took a special performance drug that had helped her win the five medals ,in which she has to give them up. People can easily go from total success down to total failure and what Jones did was one of the biggest falls in history and people could do the same if they cheated to win something that is probably not worth it.

Student athletes need to remember the times of the year that they’ll be tied up with games and practices. Other students who are in classes that make considerable demands outside of the classroom must keep that reality in mind.”

Reflection:

What this statement probably means is that trying hard to do what's right is important and will lead you to pride. In other words, you will have pride, self-esteem, and personal satisfaction if you do what is right even if it is hard doing so. For example, you get bad grades all the time and you're starting to get sick of failing, so to clean up your act you decide to start studying and doing homework for once and sacrificing free time to complete your classwork/homework, which is hard for you do give up on, and when your report card comes out you start getting A's and B's, because of the good grade you got, you feel proud of yourself and start doing work everyday.
